The huge amount of money for the ‘art work’ on the water tower could be better spent by giving businesses along Broadway the money to paint and/or repair their business fronts and make them more appealing to customers and the whole look of the city. It saddens me that they would spend $241,000 on something that no one will make a point to look at much less ‘sit’ under. [ Editor’s Note: I’ve been pretty clear that I’m somewhat “ meh” about the water tower project, but I could be wrong. But to your point, the whole “ The huge amount of money for the ‘ art work’ on the water tower could be better spent by _____” idea could be filled in with a bunch of different ideas and you’d likely get more public support than the water tower art project. However, anyone with any such ideas should have gone to the City Council meetings and expressed them there]
*** To the seven aldermen voted 4 water tower art: Be like my wife spending $2500 on a painting when I need 10 grand in house repairs. I can’t fix stupid but I can vote you out.
[ Editor’s Note: I think you have that backward. Spending $ 241,000 to “ artify” a water tower when the alternative was to spend $ 80,000 to tear it down is like spending 10 grand on painting when all you really need is a $ 2500 paint job]
*** Delta town wants that flower you've got on?
Could it be a faded corsage from the mayor's hat?
And did I hear you say, you were holding the mayor's pay Because she drove her car, to get y'all a cesspool grant? [ Editor’s Note: I think Tanya Tucker might be spinning in her grave. Wait, what? Oh, she’s still alive… Well, she’s probably still spinning in her grave]
*** Well, well lights under the over pass and now lights under and old water tower. Nice I’m sure the homeless people will like sleeping in the seat they put under the tower. Because they will be the only ones that use it. Why doesn’t the city use that money to help get something for kids to do here. I think Ms. Abernathy needs to rethink the whole light thing. Just seems like she likes spending money on lights or she has a thing for lights. [ Editor’s Note: I must point out that Main Street and Ms. Abernathy had nothing at all to do with the overpass lighting project. But to get back something else you said, “ use that money to help get something for kids to do”… you could buy a lot of playground equipment for $ 241,000]
*** Who do you contact to get the children at play signs posted along your street? [ Editor’s Note: That would depend on where you live. In Marion, Gordon Floyd is head of the Street Department. His phone number is ( 870) 739- 5419. In West Memphis, the Street Superintendent is Odell Slaughter. His number is ( 870) 732- 7583. Any changes or additions to city signage would ultimately have to go through the Public Works Commission or Planning Commission ( perhaps even the City Council for final approval), but that would be the first step. If you don’t live in Marion or West Memphis, I would recommend just calling City Hall and going from there]
