Avondale ABC now taking applications

Parents of pre- schoolers for 2017- 2018 can apply beginning Feb. 1

Avondale Elementary School The ABC Pre-School at Avondale Elementary School will be taking applications for the 2017-2018 school year beginning Feb.

The ABC pre-school is part of the Marion School District but is located at 1402 Crestmere in West Memphis. Applicants must be four years old on or before August 1, 2017, and must live in the Marion School District. Also, children must have at least one of the following qualifiers to be able to attend: (1) Family with gross income not exceeding 200% of Federal Poverty Level; (2) Parent without a high school diploma or GED; (3) Low birth weight (below 5 pounds, 9 ounces); (4) Parent is under 18 years of age at child's birth; (5) Immediate family member has a history of substance abuse; (6) Income eligible for Title I programs; (7) Eligible for services under IDEA; (8) Parent has a history of abuse or neglect or is a victim of abuse or neglect; (9) A demonstrable developmental delay as identified through screening; (10) Limited English Proficiency; (11) Foster Child; (12) Either parent is incarcerated; (13) Someone other than parent has custody of child; (14) Either parent is activated for overseas military duty; or (15) Immediate family member arrested for or convicted of drug related offenses Documentation on each identified qualifier will be required.

Marion's ABC Preschool is designed to accommodate sixty children. Three teachers and three paraprofessionals work with the children. The school hours are 8 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. The ABC Preschool follows the school district calendar.

Beginning on Feb. 1, applications may be picked up at Avondale Elementary School in West Memphis between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Applications need to be completed and returned to Avondale Elementary School.

The following items for admission are also required: proof of age (such as birth certificate, etc.); child's current shot record; child's social security number (optional, if preferred a number will be assigned to the child); proof of a wellchild physical; and proof of address in the Marion School District. These items are required when qualifying documentation is submitted.
