Trio arrested after bungled robbery
Marion Police make quick bust in Wednesday night heist attempt
ralphhardin@gmail.com There’s probably no such thing as “the best kind of robbery,” but if there were, Marion Police Detective Lt. Freddy Williams probably had the best description of it.
“They didn’t get away with anything, and nobody got hurt.”
That was how Williams described the situation regarding an armed robbery attempt at a Marion gas station, the One Stop store on Highway 64.
“We got the call around 10 p.m. Wednesday night to the station there on 64,” Williams said. “Officers responded to the scene and quickly took statements from witnesses.”
Williams said that the suspects were armed, and although they “went through the whole routine,” they ultimately left the store empty-handed.
“They had everyone get down on the floor,” Williams said. “They just didn’t get anything before they took off.”
Armed with a description of the suspects and the vehicle they drove away in, police were able to quickly track them down, making a stop on Airport Road and Highway 64.
“They found them in the car with plenty of evidence in the vehicle,” Williams said. “They were brought in for questioning and pretty quickly admitted to everything during the interview.”
Two men and one woman, Tyrell Caldwell, 20; Desmond Dorsey, 19; and Monica Bell, 19, all of Earle, were arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery. Marion Police Chief Gary Kelley praised the quick action by his officers.
“We’re glad they were able to take action so quickly and efficiently and make an arrest in this incident,” said Kelley.
“I’m proud of their work and thankfully no one was hurt.”
The arrests also proved to be a boon for the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department, as the suspects have been tied to a string of robbery’s CCSO investigators have been working.
“I want to thank the Marion Police Department Patrol Division and the Marion Police Criminal Investigation Division,” said Allen. “Last night the One Stop Station in Marion was robbed by two armed suspects wearing masks. Marion Police arrested the robbers and they have been charged with three additional armed robberies in the area over the past month.
Nobody was injured in any of the four robberies.
Great work, guys.”
The trio is currently in custody at the Crittenden County Detention Center, held on a litany of charges, including Aggravated Robbery, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree, Aggravated Assault, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. They were scheduled to appear in District Court this morning for arraignment.
