Man wanted for SunTrust robbery
WMPD looking for leads in theft
ralphhardin@gmail.com A man described as “Arabic- looking” and speaking with a “distinctive,” possibly Middle Eastern accent is wanted for the robbery of a West Memphis bank last week.
West Memphis Police Department investigators are asking the public to be on the lookout. They are searching for the man that robbed the West Memphis branch of SunTrust Bank, located at 125 W. Broadway in West Memphis, Thursday afternoon just before 4 p.m. Although no firearm or other weapon was brandished or even suggested by the robber, according to reports, the man walked into the bank and waited in line before handing a note to the teller.
The suspect was captured clearly on SunTrust’s surveillance cameras during the robbery. Video shows him was wearing an orange “hoodie” sweatshirt with white trim over a light green button-up shirt. He also wore a surgical mask and white shoes.
Police describe the suspect as male, approximately 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches, of Middle Eastern ethnicity or possibly a light skinned black male, weighing between 120 and 150 pounds.
The robber requested for the money to be in coins — quarters, dimes and nickles — and made off with an estimated $300 in change.
Investigators are looking for any information about this incident and this person of interest. They ask that citizens not attempt to confront any potential suspect, but rather that individuals immediately contact the authorities with the information.
Crittenden County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (870) 732-4444, or the West Memphis Police Department at (870) 732-7555.
