‘Unite the Country’ an improbable, maybe impossible task

Admittedly, we’ve probably all heard more than we want from all points of view regarding the historic presidential election but, Fox News political commentator Bill O’Reilly in his recent “Talking Points” segment very clearly explained why President-elect Donald Trump’s promise of “bringing this country back together” will never be accomplished.

We were so impressed with O’Reilly segment that we simply had to share his viewpoint. Before we begin, let us point out that O’Reilly’s program is routinely the highest-rated show of the three major U.S. 24-hour cable networks.

His topic was “Unite the country” which began by saying the USA is a divided country under President Obama’s watch, and there is serious doubt that Trump can actually bring this country back together and here is a prime example.

Taking a look at the nation’s largest city, New York, Hillary Clinton received nearly 79 percent of the vote while Trump received just 18 percent.

“This clearly shows the ‘Big Apple’ is rock solid steady left. Remember, Trump said during the campaign that he might carry New York but it was never even remotely possible,” O’Reilly said.

Unlike San Francisco, which is steeped in socialist ideology, New York City is basically a welfare state, he said NYC demographics is very diverse with whites representing 32.1 percent; Hispanic, 29.1 percent; blacks, 24 percent and Asian 14.1 percent.

In addition, 38 percent of NYC population is foreign born and 17 percent are not even citizens. So, O’Reilly pointed out that you are looking at a situation where millions of New Yorkers are trying to survive in a very tough environment.

The population of NYC is about 8.5 million and many of then can’t make a living, so the government must support them, says O’Reilly.

Now here are the startling facts. Right now NYC is approaching $100 BILLION in debt. About 20 percent of NYC residents (1.7u million people) are now receiving food stamps at a cost of $250 million a month.

Other assistance to NYC residents is more than $100 million a month.

About 5 percent of the city’s population is on disability, which costs $252 million a month and finally, 600,000 New Yorkers are receiving payments for public housing. That is 7 percent of the population O’Reilly pointed out.

“So, you see New York City, the most powerful financial center in the world, is basically a dependency, and people receiving disability checks, housing supplements, food stamps and other direct payments won’t vote for Republicans EVER!” O’Reilly said.

He went on to make clear there is little desire on the part of the NYC liberal city government to lift people out of welfare because liberal politicians actually want dependency.

“With 80 percent of the voters in NYC continue to support the far-left vision, nothing is going to change,” O’Reilly said.

This situation O’Reilly pointed out in NYC is a welfare system very similar to what we are experiencing right here in the Arkansas delta, and the liberal politicians have no desire whatsoever to lift their constituents out of welfare. It is simply not to their self-serving political advantage.

This welfare system in many places is simply too entrenched and the welfare system is not — is not — going to make America great, O’Reilly said, and we could not agree more.
