In your “church directory” you list first united methodist with david moseley & michelle morris as pastors, there are 3 new ministers but I don’t know the spelling of the names. [ Editor’s Note: I’ll see if we can get that corrected. You know, those Methodists like to move their folks around a lot. On that note, if you attend one of the churches in our weekly Church Directory, please take a minute to check it and make sure our current information is correct and upto- date. The only way we know to make a change is if someone tells us]

*** I was at a bball game the other night will the fans be fans n not coach ur kids from the bleachers n will u if u want to volunteer start with the lil kids. the schools has people in place to coach the teams ok mane please let them handle it Only in a small town in the county only [ Editor’s Note: Having coached both boys and girls in baseball, softball, volleyball and such, and having been a youth sports player back in the day, I feel fairly confident, based on my experience, that no, the parents in the stands will not take your advice. Every one of them has a kid out there, and while a good deal of it is simply them encouraging their youngster to do his or her best, some of them feel like it is their job to, as you put it, coach their kids from the bleachers. And, no, it’s not going to stop any time soon… or ever, really]

*** The best Christmas scene is at 416 Gibson Ave (intersection of Gibson and Pearce). It’s on FB as Simmons’ Blowmolds and Lightshows. You can tune radio to 96.5 and sit back and enjoy the show. I appreciate their efforts to bring joy to the world.

[ Editor’s Note: I wish you had snapped a picture. In fact, if anyone is out taking in the holiday lights, snap a photo or two and send it in, along with the address. I’d be happy to run the photos and help spread some Christmas cheer]

*** I have seen the reference countless times in the once “Speak out” as well as “Text The Times.” Who are the supposed “Good ole Boys”??

Thanks, A probable bad ole gal [ Editor’s Note: Well, the roots of the phrase go back to England and the “ Old Boy System,” wherein persons of power would work within their own social and political peer groups, ganting favors for favors and trying to keep all of the perks and privileges of their status to themselves. Transplant that across the ocean and fast- forward a century or two, and you’ve got the “ Good Ol’ Boy System.” It’s the same principle, really. In its current form, basically, the power within a community is in the hands of long- time local families who are so ingrained into the community’s society that they, through marriage, financial strength, favoritism toward their social network, and such, that they hold influ-ence over most of the major decisions being made within the community. In the South, it’s usually a catch- all term for the rich, white men who hold all the cards and pull all the strings to help themselves and each other. And while that was a very real thing for a long time, it’s a concept that mostly is just a phrase to trot out when someone thinks that there’s some sort of unfair deal going on. And don’t worry… being a woman, you have no chance of being a “ bad ole gal.” The boys don’t let the girls play with their stuff]

*** Well, at least it should be encouraging to you (The Evening Times) that you’re getting all these delivery complaints because it shows how many people look forward to reading it after a long day of work. [ Editor’s Note: That certainly is putting a positive spin on a bad thing. The cyincal side of me thinks that people look forward to getting the paper so they can complain about it, but I do hope that you’re correct. We do try very hard to inform and entertain our readers, and having problems getting the paper into their hands has been no fun whatsoever, so thanks, everyone for your patience]
