Text The Times.
Text The Times.
I live in Crawfordsville. I would like to know why our paper doesn't get delivered until between eight and nine o'clock at night. It used to come at about two in the afternoon. Just wonder if you can do something about this. [ Editor’s Note: I’m running every one of these “ delivery problem” texts I get so that folks know we’re aware of their problem. Our equipment issue is being addressed. The projected return- tonormal date is Monday, Dec. 5, so fingers crossed]
*** Ok what’s going on with my papers in proctor. I know we not that far in the woods. lol. Ok no Monday paper got it Tuesday. Then got Tuesday’s paper Wednesday night so I guess I will get Wednesday’s paper Thursday I guess. Tell the paper delivery person what day it is. [ Editor’s Note: The Commercial Appeal used to have the slogan, “ If you haven’t read it, it’s still news!” That’s about the best spin I can put on a bad situation. Long story short, we’re sending the paper out of town to be printed and that’s taking a long time each day. To paraphrase the old line, we’re doing the best we can with what we’ve got to work with]
*** I went out tonight and noticed the Times was in the driveway, it was 6:30 PM. Evening. Is that why you call it the Evening Times? If it is it was right on time. [ Editor’s Note: Here’s a long story you can feel free to skip. Back in the day, the “ Evening Times” did indeed come out in the evening… well, late after-noon, anyway. The idea was that by printing late in the day, you could actually run some same- day breaking news. The format was changed several years ago, and now we print in the morning. I suppose there are pros and cons to both methods. The way we do it now, if something major occurs overnight, we can have it for our readers in the morning until having to wait until the end of the day. Under our current protocols, I come in at 6: 30 a. m. ( and there are production folks that get here way before I do) During that time, we put the finishing touches on the day’s paper ( such as obituaries and breaking overnight news), proofread the pages, and put them on the press. This generally puts us at around 9 a. m. Then it’s a matter of getting the papers bundled and out the door, and depending on your geographic location and proximity to the office, it takes the carrier ( depending on the size of the route) however long it takes them to deliver the paper. When we have tecnical issues it throws everything off. Some of our delivery drivers have a “ window” when they are available to run their routes before having to get to other jobs and such, and when they miss that window, it throws everything out of whack. Just a point of trivia: When we switched to a morning format, the actual name of the paper was changed to just the “ Times,” but since everyone already identifies us at the “ Evening Times,” and everything from our web site to our Facebook page to my business cards still says “ Evening Times,” I figure it will always just be the “ Evening Times,” which I guess is appropriate these past several days]
*** There should be some people on way to prison because of this. Of course the ones truly responsible have connections so there will be no accountability. Good ole boy network alive and thriving in Crittenden County. [ Editor’s Note: This was posted on our Facebook page in regards to the recent “ Our View” on the Crittenden Regional Hospital lawsuit. I have recently taken up the opinion that there are several indications that the hospital’s failure was due to mismanagement, malfeasance, or a combination of the two. I have contended that if anyone could actually prove some sort of fraud or embezzlement they would have come forward with said proof, so I wouldn’t be holding your breath wating for it at this point. I will say, however, that it might be time to retire the go- to finger- pointing at the “ Good Ole Boy Network.” There are simply honest people and dishonest people, and the dishonest ones don’t need a network to thrive as long as good people say nothing]
