CRDC to launch monthly Earle shopping shuttle

Program will take residents to WM Walmart for nominal fee

news@theeveningtimes.com

Residents of Earle needing a ride to Walmart will soon be able to catch a ride on a van once a month to shop in West Memphis.

Councilman Kenneth Cross said the service is part of a new pilot program with Crowley’s Ridge Development Council that they are trying out.

“We’ve started a new program with CRDC,” Cross said.

The van will run once a month on the first Thursday of every month starting in December.

There will be a $5 fee to ride the van.

Cross said they will need a minimum of six people in order for CRDC to send the van.

“We’re trying to find people interested in the program,” Cross said.

“Anybody who wants to can take advantage of this program.”

Residents who are interested in riding the van can sign up for the service at City Hall or the Earle Library or call CRDC at 870802-7100.

“Anybody who wants a ride, we’re going to meet in front of the library and take them to West Memphis to Walmart for two or three hours and let them do their shopping or pay bills,” Cross said.

Cross said if there is enough people using the van they may eventually expand the stops to include dropping people off for doctor’s visits and other shopping.

“We’re trying to see what the ridership will be,” Cross said. “If we can get enough ridership we will see where we can go from there.”
