Main Street Holiday Arts opens for the Christmas season

The iPad was beeping as sales rang up during a business after hours grand opening of holiday artist market in West Memphis Monday night.

Christmas shopping was in full swing as artists tended their booths and as customers warmed up their wallets at the Main Street West Memphis sponsored Holiday Arts pop up shop.

Main Street Director Deborah Abernathy explained how the 2016 pop up shop came together and look forward to the season.

“We asked some one who owns property with an empty space to let us use it so we can show off the possibilities of their building,” said Abernathy. “This was Advance Auto and they gave us the space this year for free, which was really nice. The goal is to bring people downtown so they can see what it has to offer.”

Local artisans made an overwhelming response to the Christmas sales opportunity. A table set with works benefiting Steudlein Learning Center made the whole scene extra special. Exhibit booth space was capped at 19 for the market filled with unique gifts.

“That is triple what we started with four years ago,” said Abernathy.

“Everything is local, hand made and one of a kind.

These are great Christmas gifts and its a great way to support the community.”

Pictures with Santa in his sleigh are part of the scene, too.

“Santa will be here Saturday the 3rd, the 10th and the 17th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with pictures at $6 apiece,” said Abernathy.

The shop is located at 311 East Broadway next to Southern Pipe. Weekend shopping days start Friday November 25.

“We start the Friday after Thanksgiving,” said Abernathy. “Our hours are Thursdays and Fridays 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. We accept all major credit cards, cash and checks. We will be open the week before Christmas and finally close on December 23rd”
