Bonus?? What is that? I work for a company that makes more than the city of West Memphis and we don’t get one. Be thankful that you have a job. Besides any bonuses should be taxpayer approved.
[ Editor’s Note: We ran a Letter to the Editor recently that took the opposite position, but I certainly see your point, especially since the bonus handed out in previous years was done so in lieu of committing to an across- the-board pay raise. Well, this year, West Memphis city employees got their raise. I would never begrudge anyone money rightly due, but there are only “ x” number of dollars to work with and giving the raise and the bonus is “ x times 2” dollars]
*** just curious… when can we start getting prescribed the medical Marijuana now that it has passed? My night blindness is acting up! [ Editor’s Note: The Arkansas Constitution states that ballot measures take effect on the 30th day after the election. After that date, the Arkansas Department of Health would have 120 days to adopt. This means the Medical Marijuana would go into effect no later than April 8, 2017. You’ll also have to wait until the state-approved dispensaries are opened, which will be regulated by the state’s Alcohol Beverage Control Commission. Permits for at least 20 and up to 40 dispensaries are expected to open across the state. Even then, you still need to get a prescription and a special ID card to purchase the marijuana. To do so, patients will have to have one of the following qualifying medical conditions: Cancer, Glaucoma, HIV/ AIDS, Hepatitis C, Lou Gehrig's disease, Tourette’s snydrome, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative colitis, PTSD, Severe arthritis, Fibromyalgia, or Alzheimer’s disease. So, nice try with your night blindness, but you’re welcome to hit WebMD. com and see what else you can come up with]
*** I might have missed this in the article in today’s paper about Smart911, but how secure is the personal info we include in our profile? [ Editor’s Note: It wasn’t in the story from Thursday, but it was touched upon in the story last year when the Smart911 service was implemented. Directly from the Smart911 web site: “ Your information is made available ONLY to 911 call takers and responders ONLY in the event you call 911.
Smart911 utilizes the highest standards in physical and computer security technologies and conducts regular audits to ensure all information held in Smart911 is kept secure, and only made available to 9- 1- 1 and emergency responders who are responding to or planning for emergencies.” So, it certainly sounds secure, but what else are they going to say, right? I’d wager it’s pretty safe. They don’t want your credit card number or anything, it’s a totally free service, and you are in full control of the infor-mation you enter ( health history, emergency contace numbers, etc.), so you’re only putting a minimum amount of information at risk… assuming there is a risk]
*** God bless America & God’s world! We are Americans first & I pray we all come together & listen to each other’s. I think America should get rid of electoral college. [ Editor’s Note: I’ve done a pretty long rant on the Electoral College before, so I’ll forego doing it again, except to say that the electoral vote and popular vote have only not coincided five times in U. S. History and that it does not appear to be going away any time soon. As for your other points, those are all good ideas!]
*** my name is Colletta Triplett I live at (address omitted) I have NOT receive my paper 2 day. [ Editor’s Note: Thank you for including your address ( which I excluded from this text, but shared with the Circulation Department). While it’s not good when subscribers don’t get their papers, it’s this type of information that helps us figure out what the issue is moving forward. Sorry for the inconvenience]
