New fitness pad offers variety of exercise options

The exercise equipment for a new fitness pad at Brunetti Park is in and should be installed by the end of the week.

Marion Parks and Recreation Director Andy Rawls said the city poured the concrete pad last week and is ready to begin putting the equipment there.

“The equipment that we ordered is here and they’re supposed to be here to install it this week.”

The pad is 46 feet in diameter and will have about eight pieces of equipment for residents to do plyometrics and other stationary types of exercises.

Rawls said the city ordered an ab crunch and leg lift machine, a rowing and push up machine, cardio stepper, balance steps, parallel bars and pull up bars.

The equipment cost $33,183 which was a little more expensive than originally planned, but the Parks and Recreation Committee recommended the city boost the original budget from $30,000 to $40,000.

The city also will be installing four new benches near the playground area.

Rawls said he is excited about the fitness park and expects residents will put it to good use.

“I think it is going to be a nice addition to Brunetti Park,” Rawls said. “And as much foot traffic as we get over there, it will probably get used quite a bit.”

Rawls also complimented Road Supervisor for the work his crew did on the cement pad.

“It is a nice piece of concrete work,” Rawls said.

“It’s going to be a really nice area.”
