Delta Market wraps successful season at ASU Mid-South
New location, good weather a winning recipe for vendors, customers

The last go round of the outdoor season for the Delta Market is in the bag.
The market moved over the past few years. It had been in Worthington Park. It shifted to summer Saturdays in front of the West Memphis court house under the Chamber of Commerce flag next door. But the biggest success in terms of number of vendors and paying customers was realized as the market moved to the ASU Mid-South campus on third Tuesdays this year.
Many customers enjoyed the last hurrah of summer temperatures and shopped the last Delta Market of the year.
Fresh produce, eggs, honey, baked goods, flowers and fresh cooked food filled the fair. Music from KWEM smoothed the background for the vendors set up outside the Jeremy Jacobs Hospitality Center on the north side of Broadway at the college.
It seemed like everyone was happy with the market moving. John Auker with the non-profit Delta Cuisine Commercial Kitchen and Business Incubator produced the monthly event this year. He helps business start-ups with all aspects of the early stages in the food business. The market gave vendors a chance to showcase their new products.
“The institution is happy, we have loyal vendors, and repeating customers, “ said Auker.
With his business background, Auker is driven to make the best market season in West Memphis even better. He said the improvement process starts Wednesday as participants meet to analyze the summer market. Some vendors just can’t get enough of the Delta Market and are asking for more opportunities.
“We’ll sit together and see what works and what we can do better,” said Auker.
