FedEx holds job fair for AWM, ASU Mid-South students

Programs offer career opportunities with company

West Memphis School District

ASU-Mid-South recently hosted a job fair for FedEx with the focus being on concurrent students at the Academies of West Memphis.

Hosting the fair was James Harvey, a recruiter for FedEx.

AWM students who are at least 18 years old can train as machinists and diesel mechanics and may apply for part-time employment immediately.

'We as an institution are really striving to provide better quality student serv- ices,' said Pete Selden, associate vice chancellor for Workforce Programs at ASU-Mid-South. 'Our focus right now is to keep the students here and making sure they get the credentials. Plus, we want to make sure they're going to work.

'In the workforce technology side of the house, our focus is on credentials and jobs. We will still build those partnerships with four-year institutions for transfer-ability.'

Harvey said FedEx will be coming regularly to ASUMid- South's campus for other job fairs and Selden said the school will be getting other major companies to come and do the same thing.
