Bennage qualifies for states

West Memphis sophomore Carlson Bennage advanced to next week's Class 6A state tennis tournament in Jonesboro after a runner-up finish in the 6A-East boys singles tournament in Searcy last week.

Also, teammates Kaiden Holt and Wallace Crain qualified to the state tournament as a doubles entry after finishing in 6th in the conference tournament.

Bennage defeated Davis Threlkeld of Searcy in the first round of the conference tourney in straight 6-0 sets.

He then advanced to the semifinal round with a 6-3, 63 victory over Jonesboro's Mason Mitchell.

Bennage lost in the championship match to Jonesboro's Eric Richardson 6-1, 6-3.

Holt and Wallace lost in the second round of the conference tourney 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1 to Searcy's Villemez/Wilkins 6-1, 2-6 and 6-1 before falling to Mountain Home's Kimbriel/Justman and then to Arp/Blackmon also of Mountain Home.
