DeltaARTS sets audition dates for ‘Aladdin Jr.’ show
Aspiring young stars invited to try out for fall production
Crittenden Youth Theatre Coordinator Auditions for the DeltaARTS Crittenden Youth Theatre K-12 production of Disney's “Aladdin JR” will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 24, at Faulk Elementary School in West Memphis. State Rep. Deborah & Dr. Scott Ferguson are sponsoring the production.
Students in grades K-12 can audition either Tuesday at 6 p.m. or Saturday at 10 a.m. Some auditioners will be called back to read for specific roles on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m., so everyone auditioning should keep that time open. All students who audition will be cast.
Based on the iconic animated film, Disney's “Aladdin JR” is sure to send audiences soaring on a flying carpet ride filled with romance and adventure. When the street urchin, Aladdin, vies for the attention of the beautiful princess Jasmine, he uses a genie's magic power to become a prince in order to marry her. Iago, Jafar, the Genie and more are present in this musical adventure filled with magic, mayhem, and the power of love.
Those auditioning should come prepared to sing a song a cappella (with no musical accompaniment). Suggested songs for little ones are “The Alphabet Song (ABCs),” “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” and “The Happy Birthday Song.” Students may also be asked to dance at the auditions, so comfortable clothes and shoes are required. Dresses, skirts, boots, sandals, or flipflops should NOT be worn to auditions.
A mandatory informational meeting for parents will be held Monday, Sept. 26, from 6-7 p.m. at Faulk Elementary. Participation and costume fees will be collected at this meeting. Performances are Thursday, Nov. 10, at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m., all at the Academies of West Memphis Performing Arts Center.
