Residents in the Lansing and Grassy Lake areas between Crawfordsville and Earle may be eligible for a free sewer connection to the Crawfordsville Water Department.

Crawfordsville received a $1.2 million Arkansas Community and Economic Development grant in 2013 to provide sewer service to residents in the Lansing and Grassy Lake area.

“The process of installing the sewer line is almost complete,” said Sherman Smith of East Arkansas Planning and Development District, which is the regional administrator of the grant. “The state is paying for low-income people who meet the income criteria for a free hook-up to their house.”

EAPDD sent letters to about 100 residents in those areas who may qualify but is extending the application SEWER

deadline to Sept. 9.

“We think there are a lot of people there who are qualified but have not responded to us,” Smith said.

“So we are trying to provide a little extra outreach effort to this matter.”

In order to qualify, your gross annual income must be less than or equal to $32,500 for a household of one; $37,150 for a household

of two; $41,800 for a

household of three; $46,400 for a household of four; $50,150 for a household of five; $53,850 for a household of six; $57,550 for a household of seven; and $61,250 for a household of eight.

Representatives will be taking applications from residents who missed the first application deadline at Crawfordsville City Hall on Friday Aug. 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In order to process the application, residents will need to have their Social Security number, sources of income for all household occupants, property tax receipt, and any other documents to verify income.
