It was a bunch of firsts for a Crittenden County delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this year. It was the first convention for Senator Keith Ingram. The DNC met in Philadelphia, site of the First Continental Congress. The Arkansas delegation laid hold of “favorite son” status with the State’s Former First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton the party nominee, the first woman to run as a major party candidate for President of the United States.

With that history, Arkansas claimed seats in the first row of the convention, one of which went to State Senator Keith Ingram of West Memphis. All this made for some great first impressions for Ingram, who proudly represented his home state and Crittenden County.

“The energy was tremendous,” said Ingram. “When you couple the natural energy of a convention in an historic city like Philadelphia, it was just remarkable.”

The Arkansas delegation held a special place in Mrs.

Clinton’s heart and took a special place in the convention hall in the front row.

“I think that shows the history that we have had in Arkansas and the affection she still feels for our state,” said Ingram. “The historic nature in the first female being nominated for President of the United States means a lot.”

Senator Ingram reflected upon the significance of Hillary Clinton breaking the glass ceiling, and thought first of his own family and the impact of the nomination on their futures.

“I thought about my granddaughters and how this is such an historic moment,” said Ingram.

Convention Speakers rallied enthusiasm for the Dems. A couple of outstanding speeches stirred the Arkansans standing right in front of New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and the family of Capt. Humayun Khan family. Ingram said their speeches galvanized convention goers.

“Senator Corey Booker electrified the crowd … you could just feel it,” said Ingram. “When the Khan family came on and spoke of the sacrifice of their son, they came on … demonstrated we are all in this together. It is always a good message that we solve problems together without dividing people.”
