All of the events for the Fourth at Horseshoe Lake, took place on Saturday, July 2. The morning began with the 5K Run, there were 70 entrants in this race. Overall male winners 1st-Garrett Yerton, 2nd-George Crews. Overall Female Winners – 1st-Katie Connor, 2nd- Kellie Ellis. In the 14 and Under Category- Male’s 1st place was Bo Abbay, 2nd Brantley Barclay. Female’s – 1st-Tiffany Harris, 2nd-Augusta Vining. In the 1524 Age- Male’s 1st-Phillip Zanone, 2nd-Carson Collins. Female’s – 1st-Wallace Ann Sorrells, 2nd Ashlyn Barclay. In the 2539 Age-Male’s 1st-Shawn McKinney, 2nd- Keith Ingram. Female’s -1st-Mandy Lea, 2nd- Libby Wunderlich. In the 40-49 Age- Male’s- 1st- Brett Chiles, 2nd Chris Kuhlo. Female’s-1st- Julie Faulkner, 2nd- Sheri Fernandez. In the 50-59 Age- Male’s 1st- Alex Alpe, 2nd- Reggie Hopwood. Female’s – 1st Donna McAlister, 2nd-Angela Rodgers. In the 60 Plus Age.- 1st-David Phelps, no 2nd place winner, Female’s – 1st- Munnie Jordan, 2nd- Sherry Mahoney.

The “Tour de Horseshoe” Bike Race had 44 entrants in this race. Overall Male Winners- 1st- Dub Sorrells, 2nd- G. W. Sorrells-Overall Female Winners-1st – Mandy Lea, 2nd- Julie Faulkner. In the 14 and Under category Male: 1st Van Abbay, 2nd- Mason Hull. There were no entrants in the Female 14 & Under or the Female 15-24 and no males in the 15-24. In the 25-39 Age – Male 1st place Shawn McKinney, 2nd- Keith Ingram. Female – 1st Jessica Lucas, no second place entrant. 40-49 Age: Male – 1st Place-Rob Abbay, 2nd- Chris Webb. Female- 1st-Morgan Zanone, 2nd – Sherri Kay. In the 50-59- Male- 1st Larry Montgomery, 2nd-Robin Smithwick. Female-1st- Carla Nimecks, 2nd-Betsy Wray. In the 60 Plus-Male 1st place- John Catmur, 2nd- David Phelps. No female entrants in the 60 Plus.

Surf Club
The Surf Club had a lot of events, this past Saturday. In the fishing rodeo Age group 1-5 years, Reed Scarbrough was the winner. In the age group 6-12 years old, Jack Ritchey was the winner and he also got biggest fish. In the Corn Hole Toss Tournament, first place went to Terry Tarr and Rick Scarbrough. Second place went to: Russ Fitzgerald and Ashlyn McAlpin. In the Horseshoe Toss Tournament, First place went to: Greg Davenport and Russ Fitzgerald. Second Place went to: Dylan and DeWayne Scarbrough. The children enjoyed: Water Slides, Train Ride and other children games. The Cake Walk was a great success for young and old. At Noon there was a Flag Raising Ceremony in honor of our Veterans. At 1 p.m. a Live Auction with Mike Carter began. DeWayne Scarbrough won the 50/50 drawing for the Horseshoe Lake Fire Dept.

Boat Parade
In the Boat Parade there were 8 boats who got numbers but the parade ended up with 13 boats following. Best of Show went to the Zanone Boat for decorating with the 2016 Olympic Theme. Most Creative went to the Phillips Boat. Most Patriotic went to the Wann Boat. In the Pier Decorating Contest there were 13 entrants. Best of Show went to: The McCandless Pier. Most Creative went to: The Vining Pier. Most Patriotic went to: The Landers Pier. The night ended with a 23 minute spectacular fire works display.

Everyone at Horseshoe Lake would like to thank the Horseshoe Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. and Crittenden County Deputy Sheriff’s for escorting the races. Also like to thank the volunteers who donate their time to make sure all events go well. Many donations were made to ALL events and greatly appreciated. Also like to thank the participants, with out them, the events would not be as successful. Again the HLVFD, is greatly appreciated for assisting in the fireworks display and giving up their time to spend with their families and being on stand by.
