Looking for some summer reading?

Have you ever read a book a second time, maybe a third time? Well, that’s what I find myself doing when it comes to the classics. Library shelves are teeming with wonderful novels that deserve rereading. How about “Gone With The Wind” by Margaret Mitchell (my alltime favorite). With each reading I hoped Rhett would decide to stay with Scarlett. But, frankly my dear… it never happened.

And, how about The Grapes Of Wrath” by John Steinbeck? He writes about the trials of the Joad family leaving the Oklahoma “Dust Bowl” for what they hope is a better life in California. Remember reading “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain, Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” or “The Last of the Mohicans” by James Fenimore Cooper? All these memorable stories and more are worth another read and they are available at your local library.

If, however, these classics remind you too much of high school english class and the required reading lists, I do try to stock my shelves with the latest books, too. My most recent additions are: “The Fireman” by Joe Hill, “Five Presidents” by Clint Hill (the Secret Service agent who served under Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford), “The Weekenders” by Mary Kay Andrews, “The Apartment” by Danielle Steele, “The Crossing” by Michael Connelly, “Red Platoon” by Clinton Romesha.

These are just to name a few. For the younger readers, I have added “Middle School” and “Treasure Hunters” by James Patterson to the library collection.

Lastly, thanks to Linda Farr who volunteers her time and ability to keeping the library landscaping looking so pretty with her flowers and shrubs. Thank you, Linda!
