175 pounds of pot seized in I- 40 traffic stop

www.arkansasnews.com LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Highway Police said Wednesday it seized 175 pounds of marijuana from a vehicle after a weekend traffic stop on Interstate 40 in eastern Arkansas.

An officer stopped the vehicle, a one-ton pickup that was hauling a small car trailer, at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at a weigh station near West Memphis. The driver, Rodney O’Neal Thompson, gave the officer a driver’s license that he said was his, but it belonged to his codriver, Seddrick Deshon McShan, the Highway Police said in a news release. The Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office brought a drug-sniffing dog to the scene, and the dog alerted on the top ramp of the carhauling trailer, where officers found 175 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a 2013 Volkswagen, according to the release.

Authorities believe the marijuana was in transit from Washington state to Atlanta, Ga.

Thompson and McShan were taken to the Crittenden County jail, where both were booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and Thompson also was booked on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and failure to pay unified carrier registration fees.

Bond was set at $75,000 for each.
