WMPD arrests Mississippi men posing as police officers

Pair steals Southaven PD cruiser, run into real cops

ralphhardin@gmail.com On Thursday, June 16, at approximately 3:40 a.m., West Memphis Police Officers observed an unmarked Black Ford SUV activate its blue lights in an attempt to pull over a tractor trailer on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

“Officers noted that when the occupants of the SUV observed the local officers, they turned off their blue lights and pulled into a truck stop parking lot,” said West Memphis Police Capt. Ken Mitchell.

As West Memphis Officers went to inquire, a black male suspect, later identifies as Marquain Lackland, 19, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, fled from the driver’s side, and a white male suspect, later identified as a 15-year-old juvenile of Walls, Mississippi, fled from the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

“Both suspects were apprehended in the area a short time later and gave West Memphis Detectives statements, admitting to taking the SUV, which belonged to the Southaven Police Department, from a repair shop in Horn Lake, Mississippi,” said Mitchell. Both suspects were charged with multiple misdemeanors, including Flee-

Marquain Lackland ing and Reckless Driving, as well as multiple felony charges, including Theft by Receiving Greater than $25,000, Criminal Impersonation in the 1st Degree (Pretending to be a Law Official)., They are both currently being housed at the Crittenden County Detention Center. The pair are in custody, charged in Arkansas, and are awaiting possible extradition back to Mississippi, where they will possibly face additional charges.
