Delta Market back in business tomorrow

ASU Mid- South hosts monthly crafts, produce showcase

ralphhardin@gmail.com After a successful seasonopening endeavor, the Delta Market is set to return to the ASU Mid-South north campus Tuesday. A dozen or more vendors are expected to be on hand to peddle their wares.

Last month, the market saw a marked increase in the number of participants and shoppers compared to recent years’ efforts at different locations.

“We had a lot of participation for our first ever Delta Market (at the new location),” said coordinator John Auker, who also directs the Delta Cuisine Kitchen Incubator Program after last months inaugural market. “The booth space was free and we had a lot of interest. By doing this on a weekday we aren’t competing with Saturday events in Memphis and get a lot busier traffic on campus than downtown.”

Auker hopes the monthly markets will catch on as a link between local entrepreneurs and customers. Delta Cuisine provides an industrial kitchen for folks to try recipes, complete with packaging, resources and expert consultation to help develop their business, with the Delta Market providing a test market.

The Delta Market will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will feature fresh produce, fresh eggs, artisan foods, flowers, honey, crafts, food trucks, a bouncy ball, and historic KWEM music.
