Hughes/Horseshoe Lake News

On June 7, some of the Crittenden County Master Gardener’s and Hughes Town and Country Garden Club (HTCGC) members took a trip to Des Arc, for a yard tour of the home of The Rollins. Those attending were: Melinda Akins, Nelda Antoinette (Donna’s sister), Holly Bacon, Lanell Butler, Pat Cain, Alfred & Susan Creekmore, Jeanette Cumbia, Adair Dhority, Linda Farr and her sister from around Cabot, Margaret Harrell, Joanna and Glenda Proffitt and Dorothy Sample. They chose this time of the year at the recommendation of Donna Rollins, since her day lilies and different type hydrangeas were in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous. This yard located on seven acres is maintained by Mr. & Mrs. Rollins themselves. Their yard is everyone’s dream to have something in bloom every season. CCMG are already talking about going back next spring so they can see everything she has in bloom then. For a sneak preview of some pictures of sections, visit Crittenden County Master Gardener page on face book. The yard is so big and so well planned out taking a picture from the street of the whole yard, would not do it justice. Donna also introduced some of us Master Gardener’s to Evans Nursery in Ward. The ladies from HTCGC finished up their trip with lunch at Nick’s BBQ in Carlisle.

Clean-Up

Horseshoe Lake Area would like to express their thanks to Judge Woody Wheeless, Ronnie Marconi, Lisa O’Neal and Laquita Taylor for all their efforts in making our annual clean-up that took place in May a success. Canal Gardens had 4.56 tons and the Town of Horseshoe Lake had 3.36 tons. The clean-up kept the dumpster divers busy for 4 days, which probably enabled the containers to not be over loaded.
