Congrats to the Conston twins! Hard work and good parenting pays off. [ Editor’s Note: I know some of the teachers at the ol’Academies of West Memphis, and they have nothing but praise for those young men. I’ve said it before, but congrats, gents!]

*** I find myself enjoying text the times a lot, and when I first read about this story it was no different. To the people worrying about the policeman taking his child to school in the squad car, let’s worry about the much bigger picture here, like…why you’re such a jerk? I know for a fact that some of officers work long and rough schedules, maybe that is the only time he can actually spend with his kid. Have you thought, maybe he was missed a couple rewards programs, missed a play they were in? No? Well there, that shows you’re indeed a jerk. God forbid that could be the last time that kids see their dad or mom, as some experienced years ago with 2 of our fallen officers. Moral of the story, YOU DON’T KNOW THE STORY, as neither do I. So how bout you think about what they have to endure for their families and vice versa. MIC DROP!! [ Editor’s Note: First off, bonus points for the mic drop. I hope you didn’t toss your phone to the ground. Second, I also don’t know the story, but like you, I’m having trouble finding anything wrong going on here. If you recall, the original complaint drew a comparison between this offi-cer taking his kid to school in his squad car and the Earle mayor taking her city- owned car to the dog track. If that’s the logic we’re basing this argument on, I’m not sure it’s worth debating]

*** The City of Marion has dodged a bullet! WHEW (wiping brow)!!! We sure wouldn’t want to set a NEGATIVE precedent by naming a softball field after a man that has been such a long time POSITIVE role model to our young people. We might find that there are others that are doing the same and might deserve some thing similar after many years of hard work. Yep, I say, we should NEVER be known as the city that honors our citizens for their greatness?! Thank you, Mr. Mayor and City Council for protecting us from that !!! (Sarcasm!!) [ Editor’s Note: I actually considered writing a full editorial on this very topic. I fully agree with you, including the sarcasm. I fail to see what sort of dangerous precedent would be set by naming the softball field after Coach Horton, or offering any other sort of tribute to any of our local persons of note. In fact, the argument that it might start some sort of trend is just ludicrous. First off, I think John Robins Field, Brunetti Park, L. P. Mann Drive, Carter Drive, and the like already show that ( at least at one time) this city actually did have an interest in recognizing the people who made a contribution to the community. I would have no problem, and would in fact find it pretty cool to see my daughter one day playing soft-ball at David Horton Field, or playing in the Coach Melvin Brown Gym, or, take your pick of any of the great teachers, coaches, players, and city leaders from the past several years] *** We’ll looks like the city of Marion’s in house paving crew are wasting more of our tax dollars. I think the citizens of our city should ride to the middle school and just look at what a great job they done NOT!

[ Editor’s Note: They’re clearly not done, right? Right? ( See photos)]

*** Sir or Ma’am: My response is NO, it’s NOTAFAIR TRADE. A band playing at an event for a specific time, not an entire day is one thing. There is an expected end time to the noise and/or music if it will be at an elevated volume. What is going on instead, is they have their cars parked with doors and trunks open blaring their choice of awful music on end, without regard to times or surroundings. That is unacceptable. Once again today there is more booming coming from that direction/area. You speak of it bringing in thousands of dollars. Well, I spend money here year round. Wal-mart, Kroger, etc.,etc. I would think with the dwindling population of West Memphis, because good law abiding citizens are fleeing this area, the City Council and Police Department would put forth the effort to change things. I propose that the Council or the Court, whom ever decides the monetary fine amount, raise the fine to start at $250.00 in addition to court costs and that each consecutive violation thereafter be doubled. That would put an end to some of this ridiculous noise that we are forced to listen too. I’m sick of it. I could go on and on but after working 60 plus hours each and every week I am just to damn tired and all I want to do is rest and have quiet. Maybe if some of these people that cause these problems actually worked they also might be to damn tired to make so much noise. [ Editor’s Note: Again, I can sympathize with your dilemma, but again, there is no violation of the law taking place, at least not one that I can find in West Memphis municipal code, which would be the law of the land. And again, those parks exist to host those types of events, so ( and I know this isn’t what you want to hear) I don’t imagine you’re going to have a very pleasant summer. I know of at least two major events scheduled there over the next few weeks]
