Teacher with local ties earns honors

Josie McNeely Walker, daughter of E.M. McNeely Jr. (deceased) and Camille W. McNeely of Marion, Arkansas and Germantown, Tennessee has been named the national recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the secondary level by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).
Josie is thrilled to travel to Miami in July to accept this prestigious honor at AATSP's annual conference. In 2014, the Tennessee Foreign Language Teachers Association (TFLTA) named Josie their recipient for the teacher of the year and this award is presented annually to an outstanding foreign language educator at the K-12 level.
She was a finalist for teacher of the year at the Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT) in 2015.
Josie is a Middle and Upper School Spanish teacher at St. Mary’s Episcopal School in Memphis, and previously taught at Earle High School, from 1980 to 1984. She grew up in Crittenden County with her two sisters, Pam and Susan.
