Old GOATs gather for milestone birthday

West Memphis WWII veteran marks 99th birthday with friends

ralphhardin@gmail.com Recently, the self-titled 'Old GOATs Club' met to celebrate the 99th Birthday for West Memphis resident Eugene Morgan.

“Brother Eugene” as he is affectionately known, is a World War II Marine Veteran who served in the Pacific Theater, and is a former teacher.

One of Eugene's hobbies was flying, and he worked at the West Memphis Airport for many years.

The 'Old GOATs Club' is a group of men who meet weekly at Shoney's for food, fellowship and friendship. Brother Eugene is the president of the club, simply by virtue of being its oldest member.

And before you snicker at the name, GOAT is a slang term, often used to refer to someone as the Greatest Of All Time.
