Man escaped from Brickeys prison sought by authorities

ralphhardin@gmail.com A prisoner convicted of murder escaped on Monday from East Arkansas Regional Unit prison in the small community of Brickeys, in Lee County, about 35 miles southwest of West Memphis.

Lloyd Jones, 40, was working as a member of a prison work crew when he escaped, according to Arkansas Department of Corrections officials.

Jones was four years into a 60-year sentence.

Solomon Graves, spokesman Arkansas Department of Corrections said Jones was convicted in the murder of 16-year-old Angela Allen who Jones met near the Arkansas River, and whose body he stuffed in a barrel after killing her.

Jones pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in Allen’s death, and to charges of transmitting child porn and abusing a corpse in 2012. He had a previous conviction, for rape in 2000.

Jones escaped from a work detail about two miles from the main prison on a patch of state property where prisoners where working on a construction site, Graves said.

Graves said Jones was under armed guard when he ran away. He could not immediately say how Jones eluded the guard detail.

“Our focus right now is bringing the inmate into custody. How he got away will be determined at a later date,” Graves said.

Jones was wearing a white inmate uniform when he escaped, although he may have since changed clothing. Although he is from Sebastian County, investigators are trying to determine whether Jones knows anyone in this part of the state.

Jones is listed as 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. His most recent known address was a home on Arkansas Highway 96 in Lavaca. He has multiple tattoos, including depictions of a dragon, a wizard and a skull.
