Summer food programs help fill the nutrition gap

ralphhardin@gmail.com According to an Arkansas News Service report, 80 percent of the children who get free lunch at school don't participate in summer meal programs, mostly because their parents and guardians aren't aware of them, according to the antihunger group Hunger Free America.

A number of these programs are taking place right here in Crittenden County.

Find a program location in your area below:

• Earle High School Cafeteria, June 6 through July 28, at 16432 Hwy. 64 West, Earle. Meals will be provided Monday-Friday for children up to 18 years old.

Closed July 4.

• Mt. Beulah Outreach, June 6 through July 28, at 320 Lee Ave., Earle. Snack 1 p.m. Supper 3 p.m. All meals served daily Monday- Friday for children up to 18 years old.

• Rowe Park, North 11St., West Memphis, June 6 through Aug. 17. Breakfast 10 a.m./Supper 5 p.m.

• Matthews Park, 600 Vanderbilt, West Memphis.

Breakfast 10 a.m./Supper 5 p.m.;
