Miss Arkansas visits West Memphis

Stop at ASU Learning Center part of confidence initiative

The children at the ASU Early Learning Center in West Memphis got a double dip of delight from two very special visitors one day last week. Miss Arkansas and Bess the Book Bus gave about forty pre-schoolers a big thrill with their Thursday visit to the Wonder City.

Miss Arkansas 2015 is Loren McDaniel who spoke to the youngsters about confidence. Her platform is entitled “Confidently You.” “It’s about how you feel on the inside,” said Mc-Daniel. “With kids we talk about being who you are, believing in yourself and setting goals. they are asked what do you want to be when you grow up they can decide to do things now to move toward that.”

Along with her personal platform, Miss Arkansas serves as a goodwill ambassador for the Children’s Miracle network and comes along some other good causes too.

McDaniel also speaks for CITGO Fueling Good helps teacher and charities.

CITGO raised $180 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the last 30 years. 312 teachers have received $1,000 for school supplies through the program.

Jennifer Frances, founder of Bess the Book Bus warmed up the pre-schoolers by reading a couple of books. Lot’s of oohs were heard while she read the “The Icky Sticky Monster.” The students went to the book bus and each one picked out a book with the help of Frances and Mc-Daniel.

The big day came one day was put together by Program Manager Theresa Bohanon and Laci Owens family service coordinator at ASU Early Center. The two guest ramped up events that culminated in the preschool graduation the next

day.
