Christian Brothers High School held its 145th commencement on May 14 at First Assembly Church in Memphis. 197 seniors received their diplomas, thus there are now more than 11,000 living alumni who have graduated from CBHS. The senior who graduated at the top of the Class of 2016 is Lawson Tyrone.

Lawson was lauded as an outstanding student and impressive leader. Ranked first in his senior class, he holds a 5.033 weighted grade point average, scored 35 on the ACT (a perfect 36 on the science section of the test) and 2110 on the SAT. He has been named a National Merit Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction. He wass the Honor Council vice-president, Brothers Leadership Council treasurer, and member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. He attended the Notre Dame Summer College Program and received the Yale Book Award. He has been a member of the De La Salle Scholars since ninth grade.

With an internal drive and discipline, Lawson displays a unique maturity for a high school student.

After arriving on campus as a freshman, he was elected president of his class.

In addition, Lawson is a proactive member of two service clubs and is a volunteer tutor for at-risk students at a local Boys and Girls Club. He is a fouryear letterman of the Brothers in Arms Trap and Skeet Team, president of the Ultimate Frisbee Club, a Student Ambassador, and co-chair of the Ducks Unlimited Varsity Chapter that extends conservation efforts to the high school level.

Lawson received the Brother J. Stephen O'Malley Award, which is given to the senior who has best exemplified the high qualities of honor, courage, scholarship, leadership, and service to school and society.

Lawson is the son of Taz and Meredith Tyrone of West Memphis, Arkansas.

He will be attending the University of Notre Dame in the fall as well as studying abroad this summer in Rome, Italy with the Notre Dame Global Gateway Program.
