Social Security delivers the most popular baby names in Arkansas for 2015

William, Emma top list for state’s newborns

www.socialsecurity.gov The Social Security Administration has announced the most popular baby names in Arkansas for 2015.

William topped the list for baby boys, and Emma topped the list for girls.

There was a deciedly biblical slant to this year’s list on the boys’ side of things, with several names in the top teb coming from the “good book.” The Top Boys Names in Arkansas for 2015 were: 1) William, 2) Elijah, 3) Mason, 4) Noah, 5) James, 6) Liam, 7) Jacob, 8) John, 9) Gabriel, and 10) Carter.

There were 193 new Williams born in the state last year.

On the girls’ side, it was a mix of classics and newly popular (or re-popularized) names.

1) Emma, 2) Olivia, 3) Ava, 4) Isabella, 5) Harper, 6) Sophia, 7) Abigail, 8) Avery, 9) Paisley, and 10) Ella.

“William” has been a perennial favorite in the U.S. and Europe for hundreds of years, dating back to the days of William the Conqueror in 1066. In fact, the number six entry, Liam, is a shortened form of William.

Emma dates back just as far, to Anglo-Saxon days, with the popularity of Emma, Queen consort and mother of Edward the Confessor, and a revival of sorts came with the 19th century Jane Austen novel “Emma.”

Carolyn W. Colvin, Acting Commissioner of Social Security, announced last week that Noah and Emma were the most popular baby names in the U.S. (again, both names were tops in 2014 as well). William was number five nationally (Liam was number two). Like a name, Social Security is with you through life’s journey. For future parents who need some inspiration and help with naming their baby, Social Security is unveiling a new baby names quiz at Social Security Matters, the agency’s interactive blog located at http://blog.socialsecurity.g ov. At the blog, people can find information on retirement, disability, and survivors benefits, online services, and much more.

As she does each year, Acting Commissioner Colvin encourages everyone to visit the agency’s website, have fun with the baby names list, and create a My Social Security account at www.socialsecurity. gov/myaccount. My Social Security is a personalized online account that people can use beginning in their working years and continuing throughout the time they receive Social Security benefits.

Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries can have instant access to their benefit verification letter, payment history, and complete earnings record by establishing a my Social Security account.

Beneficiaries also can change their address, start or change direct deposit information, and print a replacement SSA-1099 online. People receiving Social Security can request a replacement Medicare card online.

Individuals age 18 and older who are not receiving benefits can also sign up for a my Social Security account to get their personalized online Social Security Statement.

The online Statement provides workers with secure and convenient access to their Social Security earnings and benefit information, and estimates of future benefits they can use to plan for their retirement.

In addition to each state’s top baby names, Social Security’s website has a list of the 1,000 most popular boys’ and girls’ names for 2015 and offers lists of baby names for each year since 1880.
