You all may dislike Hillary Clinton, you may disagree sharply with her policies, but she and the people around her do their facts. Nobody has a monopoly on wisdom, but in this election one party has largely cornered the market in raw, unadulterated ignorance. “HINT” THE ELEPHANT – In my humble opinion.

[ Editor’s Note: The fact that we are less than six months away from the general election and one party’s lone remaining candidate is disliked by much of his own party and the other party’s presumptive nominee has lost three of the last five primaries to a self- professed socialist makes me think that there’s still plenty of ignorance left to go around]

*** I think text the times is one of the best things in the paper to read. The people have a chance to voice their opinion which is important to them because they went to the trouble to send a text. But as you wrote “folks who think their opinion is more valid simply because it’s theirs are the ones I tend to respond to with sarcasm.” I am not an editor but maybe you should look closely to your answers that you give to the people that read your paper. Remember those people are the ones that buy and read this paper and that’s what gives you a job!!!

[ Editor’s Note: I don’t mean to suggest that thinking you’re correct means you don’t deserve a straightforward response. I do mean to suggest that it is difficult to respond to an uninformed, biased opinion without taking a bit of a “ poison pen” approach. I certainly don’t mean to offend anyone, especially our readers, so apologies if I do]

*** Who sets the timers on the traffic lights for the city. The light that goes East and West on 7th Street, crossing Glenn Bailey into Barton changes so fast from green to red that it’s ridiculous. I and another car was sitting there and before I could make it through, the light had changed. Someone needs to check these lights on a regular. “TRINA” [ Editor’s Note: I’m not sure if “ TRINA” is your name or another cool text- speak code for something I’m not hip to yet, but to address your question. The City of West Memphis actually spend a good deal of time and money on a city- wide “ signalization” initiative last year ( or maybe 2014), which was aimed at improving overall traffic flow around the city. That intersection was one of the targeted areas. Either the City Engineer’s Office or the Street Department would have been who set the timing of the lights. I don’t know if they keep the same timing 24 hours a day or if there’s an alternating schedule]

*** I would like to send a message to the West Memphis Police for doing a great job yesterday with the standoff. With all the bad press the police get goes to show everyone that we have a great police department it ended with no one hurt it could have been different the police could have ended it sooner but someone would have been hurt or killed but they waited the suspect out. [ Editor’s Note: Happy to pass on the message. I, too, am glad that ultimately no one was harmed in that situation. It serves to show how even a simple matter such as serving an eviction notice can turn into a potentially deadly situation with virtually no warning for law enforcement personnel. While we are hearing more and more these days about police handling a situation that does turn violent, there are probably many more cases like this one, where the situation is peacefully resolved, that go completely unnoticed every day]

*** If either Trump or Hillary

wins… you know who loses? America! [ Editor’s Note: Just throwing it out there… the Libertarian Party’s national convention is May 26- 30 in Orlando. Leading candidates include former Governor of New Mexico Gary Johnson ( as a Republican), and John McAfee, the guy who invented that McAfee Internet Security software that keeps begging me to renew my subscription]
