19th Esperanza Bonanza golf tournament a hit

42 two- person teams dot annual event

Sports Editor The 24th edition of Esperanza Bonanza brought out some of the top local golf talent over the weekend.

The Esperanza Bonanza’s 19th golf tournament was held on May 6 at Marion Golf and Athletic Club, and was highlighted 42 two-person teams taking part in the festivities.

Four flights were paid out at the tournament. The Championship Flight was won by Case Cooper and Wade Human. Chance White and Matt Reed came in second with Mel Bearden and Toby Duncan finishing third.

The first flight was won by Andy Rawls and Joe McElroy. Bobby and Matt Cassidy took second while Randy Sullivan and Steve Sorrell checked in third.

The second flight saw Shea Cole and Cory Brasfield win gold, while Nick Sutton and Thomas Girard grabbing silver.

John and Melissa Harbin rounded out the teams to place with a third-place finish.

Dick and Cole Wann won the third flight, followed by David Covington and Lee Mays in second and Terry Gibson and David Carter capturing third.

The tournament also featured a closest to the pin competition on various holes, as well as a long drive title on hole #18.

Matt Reed was the big winner for the long drive there.

Bowers Clement was the closest to the pin on hole No. 5, Ryan Barlow won on hole No. 7, Paul Ginn was tops on hole No. 11 and Heath Jackson was tops on hole No. 13.
