Crittenden County Master Gardener’s held their monthly meeting on April 12. This year there were 9 new Master Gardener’s who joined with Crittenden County. Those present to receive their certificates, badges and manuals at April’s meeting were: Alfred & Susan Creekmore, April Holland, George Murphree, Diane Murphy and Jeff Tacker. CCMG are gearing up for their annual Plant Sale Mother’s Day weekend. It will be at the Pavillion across from the County Extension Office in Marion. It will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 6-7. CCMG agreed to suspend Garden Tours until June 2017 and will participate in the Crawfordsville Home Town Festival in October. C.A.N.

Hughes Community Action Network (C.A.N.) is working with Rural Community Alliance and University of Arkansas for Medical Services (UAMS). They held a meeting last night at Bonnie’s Place in Hughes. If you have any questions you can contact Ashley at 501-526-6632.

Garden Club

The Hughes Town and Country Garden Club met at High Water Landing at Horseshoe Lake. This month’s hostesses were: Nancy Bonds and Jeanette Cumbia. This month’s program was on Herbs and was presented by Russ Parker, County Agent with Crittenden County Extension Office. Installation of Officers was presented by Teresa Shannon, where she gives each new incoming officer a colored plant representing their position. Officers for 2016-2018 are as follows: President- Holly Bacon Purple is a symbol of authority and leadershipshe received an orchid. First Vice-President-Melinda Akins -Pink is like a lovely new dawn- she received a basket of New Guinea Impatiens. Second Vice-President – Butch Murray- Red is for bravery and courage- she received a pot of geraniums. Recording Secretary Sherry Dodd – White is the shining light- she received petunia’s. Treasurer- Barb Mc Kee – Blue signifies loyalty and honesty- she received a Tecro Heat Lobelia. Corresponding Secretary- Rosalind O’Neal- Yellow represents the Lovely Light- she received a Golden Sphere Coreopsis.

Parliamentarian- Kathy Davenport -0range is the color to signify the flame of justice- she received a basket of Gerbera Daisy. Out going President, Virginia Carpenter received a Past President pin and decorated wreath. The ladies enjoyed a beautiful and delicious plate of Chicken and rice, steamed broccoli , asparagus, sautéed onions and cherry tomatoes and rolls. Their choice of dessert was a plate with a bowl of Strawberries with balsamic vinegar and a choice of strawberry cake or chocolate cake. Everyone left with a garden spade.
