The Earle Music Coterie met at the First United Methodist Church on St. Patrick’s Day.

Rev. Tony Wells, president, presided and led the reading of the club collect. Rev. Wells read “The Bridge Builder” from the book “Sunrise to Starlight” by Will Allen Dromgoole.

Mary Jo Staggs gave the story of the song “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” followed by group singing led by Janis Lancaster accompanied by Dr. Chris Thompson.

Dr. Thompson, a professor of music at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, presented a piano concert including “Prelude in Classic Style,” Cantos Populares,” “Kitten on the Keys,” “Graceful Ghost Rag,” “Odeon: Tango Brasileiro” and “Billie’s Song.”

Jane Speed was in charge of the program. The group sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” at the close of the program. Elleene Holloway and Dot McKinney were co-hosts.

Other members present were Donna Hooker, Stacie Grubbs, Christine Littlejohn, Frankie Swindle and Sue Ann Elms. Visitors were Sue Dorman, Coretta Allen, Joyce McEwen, Lois Smith, Allison Bird, Ken Lancaster, Eric Elms and Pam Swaggerty.

*** Megan and Katie Greer of Jenks, Oklahoma spent spring break in Earle in the home of Ann Pickering-Philyaw and her husband Bob Philyaw.

They were entertained for their 15th and 17th birthdays with a cook-out at J. & T. Farms in Proctor hosted by Terri and John Kuhn. They rode horses, four wheelers, go carts, paddle boats and played games.

Included were Bobby and Ann Philyaw, Ron Harvey of Germantown, Tennessee, April Harvey of Marion, Chad Kirkley, Jackson Kirkley and Emily Kirkley of West Memphis, Wade Rodgers II and Nolan Rodgers of Earle and Marion.

They also enjoyed going to Jumping World in Memphis on Friday.

*** Pam Swaggerty of Pasadena, Maryland returned home recently after visiting the home of Dot McKinney.

*** The Red Hat Society met at Mi Pueblo Restaurant in West Memphis March 19.

Cyndi Sanders of Marion and Gerry Clark of West Memphis were co-hosts. Favors were assorted gifts and candy.

Ellen Holloway and Mary Frances Davis were recognized for their February and March birthdays and were serenaded with the kazoos.

Nancy Laferney was welcomed as a new member. Clara Miller, Queen Mom, announced that there would be an open house held at the Crittenden County Museum in Earle April 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. The special occasion will be in memory of Bryan W. Speed.

Everyone is invited to attend. Refreshments will be provided by the Red Hat Society.

Others attending the meeting were Mary Ann Pollard, Ann Pickering-Philyaw, Polly O’Neil, Vickey Wells, Minnie McCain, Janis Lancaster, Gayle Berry, Christine Littlejohn and Lily Holloway, a guest.

*** The Men’s Fellowship of the First Assembly of God church met at the church March 16 where they enjoyed a hamburger supper prepared by Bobby Rodgers. Rev. Clayton Adams, pastor, gave the devotional.

Among those attending were Elbert Person, John Buford, Tommy Buford, Wade Young, Matt Carlo, Rickey Sides, Jeff Newingham and Carlos Love.

*** Christine Littlejohn, Ellen Holloway, Elleene Holloway, Mary Frances Davis, Sue Ann Elms, Jean Burns and her niece of Atlanta, Georgia, (Patsy Hill), Dot McKinney and Pam Swaggerty, her sister from Pasadena, Maryland, enjoyed having lunch at Colton’s in Marion March 15.

*** The 39er’s of the Earle Baptist Church had dinner at Shoney’s in West Memphis March 25.

Included were Janis Lancaster, Ken Lancaster, Louis Lancaster, Frankie Swindle, Charlene and Elbert Person, Mary Frances and Edmon Davis, Tanya Pate, Kay and Rev. Bill Watt, Doug Manchester, Vickey and Rev. Tony Wells, chairman of the group.

*** A group from the First Assembly of God Church was in Memphis March 5 at Fed Ex Forum where they attended Winter Jam, a concert presented by various Christian bands.

On the way over they had lunch in Marion at Audre’s Pizza and Grill.

Among those taking the trip were Tabitha and Jeff Newingham, Hailee and Bella Newingham, Emma and Olivia Watson, Cassandra Soto, Alicia Martinez, Tammy Soto, Amy Soto, Debbie Newingham, Kim and Heather Epps and family and Jackson Glide.

*** Saturday, April 9th will be the Second Annual Keith Hickman Memorial Barbecue at Crittenden Lodge 607, 705 Commerce Street in Earle. This is open to the public and will include a big BBQ Sandwich, baked beans, Cole slaw and drink for $7. A whole butt (while supplies last) can be purchased for $30. Serving will be from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
