AWM celebrates National Pi Day with sweet treats

March 14… 3.14… get it?

West Memphis School District Pi was never sweeter at the Academies of West Memphis on March 14.

As part of a mathematics project, AWM AP math teacher Joanne Smith gave her students some sweet choices to celebrate National Pi Day (3-14). All the projects were due on March 14.

Every activity centered around the math term for an irrational number.

Most of the projects selected, as always, are desserts, usually pies. The desserts must have been round, have a pi question and answer and be homemade. For full credit, the question must have been written out and turned in at the beginning of the class.

Many pies, cakes and brownies were baked.

Other options included a pi poster with a history of pi, pictures and formulas.

A pi chain with at least 50 digits.

And a pi necklace with at least 50 digits.
