Daycare staff receives crisis response training

ralphhardin@gmail.com As part of the department's commitment to keep West Memphis residents, and especially its children, safe, Officer Richard Dennis and the WMPD Training Division held a training class with the West Memphis Christian School daycare workers Thursday. The training dealt primarily in ways to deal with a violent intruder.

“Officer Dennis did an awesome class and we learned a lot,” said Amanda Harlow. “Every school should have them come do this class for them.”

The timely training came not long after an incident at Marion High School on Feb. 22, when a student brought an unloaded gun on campus. Though no one was injured, the incident has community residents talking about the need for awareness and training for similar situations. Marion school staff were recently trained in the Rave Notification Alert System, which is used in case of an emergency.
