Soup Sunday March 6

Shake Shack hosts annual Families in Transition fundraiser By the Evening Times News Staff

neww @ thee veningtimes .com Families in Transition will host their annual Soup Sunday fundraiser on March 6th at Shake Shack, 409 Military Road in Marion from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m, The Board of Directors of the organization is pleased to announce they will again partner with loyal supporter Loretta Tacker, owner of Shake Shack on this annual event.

The bill of fare will include Chili, with the option of Frito Pie, Vegetable Beef, Broccoli Cheese, and Potato Soups, Plain, Broccoli and Cheese Cornbread, Crackers, Corn Chips, Cheese, Soft Drinks, Tea and a wide variety of home-made desserts. Drive-thru service will be available.

Sandra Perkins, chairman of the event, explained that more than two decades ago, a small group of individuals felt there was a need in our community to offer support to battered women and their children.

It was soon realized that the need was greater than anyone had imagined.

That group paved the way and Families in Transition has provided safety and support to domestic violence victims ever since.

In addition to promoting human and civil rights of women and children who have been victims of domestic violence, either physically, mentally or emotionally, Families in Transition provides immediate transitional shelter and related assistance for victims of domestic violence, and also compiles statistics and does research into the problems of domestic violence.

Because the shelter is a safe-house, many people in the community are not aware of what we do. Our ongoing goal is to enlighten and educate our community on domestic violence, and to spotlight our shelter and the role it plays in the community. We welcome the opportunity to speak to civic organizations, businesses and other interested groups in the community.

Seeking grants and other funding to further the transitional shelter and the prevention of domestic violence is an ongoing. Soup Sunday is our primary fundraiser and we encourage the community to come out on March 6th and enjoy some delicious home-made soups, chili, cornbread, beverages and assorted desserts.

Tickets are $8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to Families in Transition. For tickets or additional information, call 870-732-4077 or contact any board member. Tickets are also available at Shake Shack.
