Burnett seeking County Coroner’s seat

Funeral director looks to put professional experience to work for community

Emily Burnett has announced her candidacy for the office of Crittenden County Coroner.

“As a lifelong resident of Crittenden County, I have a special love for this community because of its diversity and the warmth of the people who reside here,” says Burnett. “Presently, I am employed with Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis as a licensed funeral director.”

Burnett offered her reasons for seeking office.

“I have a passion for serving people and this profession has allowed me to assist families during some of the most challenging times in their lives — the death of a love one,” she explains. “I am seeking the office of Crittenden County Coroner because I want to implement some changes that I believe will be beneficial to our community, the families we serve and the other funeral establishments in our county.”

On her goals as Coroner:

• Our office will be professional and provide dignified service to our community regardless of race, creed, color, gender or etc.

• I will develop systems that will be beneficial to the organization and efficiency of the Coroner's office.

• I will select Deputy Coroners from the different funeral establishments in our county who will resemble the diversity of the community we serve.

• I will select Deputy Coroners who are qualified, courteous, caring and compassionate; and our office will be respectful to every single family that is experiencing the death of a loved one.

• Our office will provide clear communication to both families and funeral establishments regarding the status of a death investigation and when the death certificate will be processed.

Burnett is graduate of Marion High School and Arkansas State University’s Mountain Home campus, with an Associate Degree in Applied Science for Funeral Service.

“My dedication, educational background, professional training and unique skills to effectively communicate in a compassionate manner will be some of the tools I will use to

serve the great people of Crittenden County,” she says. “I can assure you that my fervent desire to serve the people of Crittenden County as your coroner, in a professional and uncompromising manner will make a positive difference in our community at a very sensitive time of need.”

“For me to achieve this goal, I am asking for your support and vote,” she adds. “Thank you for your consideration.”

Ezperanza on the Way

It’s never too early to start getting excited about Esperanza Bonanza. Taz Tyrone with his faithful dog Rosie present the first sponsorship check received for this year by the Esperanza Bonanza festival. The check from Acme Pest Management represents a long time commitment to the festival from the company. Accepting the check is John Antonetti, sponsorship chairman for the festival, who said “Without our sponsors and volunteers, it would not be possible to hold the festival and we thank them.” The annual barbecue festival, celebrating it’s 24th anniversary, will be held May 4-7 at the Marion Sports Complex, located just south of Marion High School.
