North Little Rock completes season sweep of West Memphis
WM School District The North Little Rock girls were just too good on Tuesday night at Lehr Arena.
On the strength of a dominating first-half, the Lady Charging 'Cats wowed the West Memphis Lady Devils 65-31.
The loss eliminates the West Memphis girls from state tournament contention.
'They're good. They're a really, really good team,' Lady Devil head coach Shelia Burns said of the Lady 'Cats. 'We tried a match-up zone and couldn't match up with them and then we went man-to-man and couldn't stop them off the dribble.'
The Lady Devils (15-11 overall, 5-8 in the 7A-East Conference) couldn't box North Little Rock out underneath the boards, either. The 'Cats hammered West Memphis 45-17 on the boards.
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first minute of play, the Lady Devils couldn't overcome a 15-3 North Little Rock run to end the first quarter as the visitors seized momentum and led 17-6 after the first eight minutes.
'It was just one of those nights for us,' said Burns.
North Little Rock kept its foot on the pedal in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Devils 22-5 and forcing 11 West Memphis turnovers to take a commanding 39-11 lead at halftime.
Although it was much too late, the Lady Devils did try to put together a run in the third quarter, scoring the first 12 points of the second half, but North Little Rock still led 45-26 heading into the fourth quarter.
West Memphis was able to get 10 points from Sable Greer while LaShala Saine added 7 and Anquanetta Chatt hit for 6.
North Little Rock (22-5, 11-2) put three players in double figures, led by sophomore Amber Hawkison's 14 points while Kyra Collier, who hit West Memphis with 35 points last month in North Little Rock, hit 13 and Yo'Myris Morris added 12.
