Governor Hutchinson announces SIG SAUER to open manufacturing facility in Jacksonville

Company to create approximately 50 new jobs

From JR Davis Arkansas Governor’s Office LAS VEGAS – Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson today announced SIG SAUER, a manufacturer of premium ammunition, is finalizing plans to locate a new ammunition manufacturing facility in an existing building in Jacksonville, Arkansas, where it anticipates creating about 50 new jobs.

The company’s plans were announced today in Las Vegas at the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT Show).

SIG SAUER was one of the six prospective companies Governor Hutchinson called on his first day in office. Hutchinson is the first Arkansas governor to attend the SHOT Show.

“Firearms and ammunition is a growing industry, and we came to Las Vegas to share the many reasons Arkansas is a natural fit for this sector,” said Governor Hutchinson. “SIG SAUER was one of the first calls I made as Governor, and I am delighted they chose our state when making the decision to expand. The fact that a world-class company like SIG SAUER is choosing to do business in the state adds to our momentum in manufacturing and we appreciate this significant commitment they are making to locate in Arkansas.”

Forbes has ranked Arkansas as the third most gun-friendly state. For every 1,000 residents, there are 42 registered firearms in the state.

“I am proud that a fine company like SIG SAUER has selected Jacksonville as a place to expand their operations,” said 2nd District U.S. Representative French Hill. “The hard working people of Arkansas are excited to welcome a new, growing employer to our community.”

SIG SAUER is one of the most renowned firearms manufacturers in the world. It manufactures both pistols and rifles as well as silencers, optics, ammunitions, airguns and accessories. The company traces its roots to 1853 as a wagon factory named Swiss Industrial Company (Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft).

'The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and the City of Jacksonville have worked very hard on this project and we are very excited that SIG SAUER had decided to locate this ammunition manufacturing facility in Jacksonville,' said Amy Mattison, CEO of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re excited about SIG SAUER, a world renowned manufacturer of firearms, locating a facility in Jacksonville,” said Jacksonville Mayor Gary Fletcher. “This is great news for our workforce with the opportunities and jobs they will provide for the community. I’m very appreciative of the hard work and efforts of Governor Asa Hutchinson, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, SIG SAUER officials, the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and many local business individuals. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship for years to come.”

In 2001, the company introduced its own training academy, SIG SAUER Academy, in New Hampshire to teach indoor and outdoor firearms-related classes for armed professionals in law enforcement, the military, security, and correctional operations as well as civilians. According to the company, almost one-third of law-enforcement professionals in the U.S. use SIG SAUER firearms. Military and government clients include the U.S. Navy SEALS, the Federal Air Marshals, the Department of Homeland Security, the Secret Service, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
