Sgt. Kathy Wood retires after 20 years of service

Marion PD bids farewell to long- serving officer

ralphhardin@gmail.com Sergeant Kathy Wood was hired by then-Police Chief John Griffin and started her career with the Marion Police Department on Dec.

19, 1995.

Fast-forward two decades, and having spent her entire career with with the Marion Police Department, Sgt.

Wood retired from law enforcement on Friday, Jan.

20.

In recognition of her final day of duty, Wood was presented with a plaque by Chief Gary Kelley during a retirement party earlier this week thanking her for her commitment to the Marion Police Department and the citizens of Marion.

For the last 11 eleven years, Sgt. Wood has been in the position of School Resource Officer for the Marion School District where she has made many lifelong friends and made a difference in many students' lives. She also received a retirement party from the school faculty before her final day at the school.

Woods was presented a plaque recognizing her service and proclaiming her an “honorary member for life.”

“The Marion Police Department wants to wish Sgt. Kathy Wood good luck on her retirement and future endeavors,” said Lt. Detective Freddy Williams. “She has dedicated 20 years to the Marion Police Department and the Citizens of Marion. She is loved by many and will be missed as she starts another chapter in her life. Good luck and we love you!”
